Display of works within festival The Present Is Not Enough – Performing Queer Histories and Futures.
«The Present Is Not Enough – Performing Queer Histories» is a large queer festival of contemporary art, which takes place annualy within the Pride in Berlin. More than 100 countries take part in this festival. In 2019, supporting the liberal initiatives of Ukraine, the festival's curators decided to attract Ukrainian artists. Thus, the first Ukrainian artist in the festival became Maria Kulikovska.
«The Present Is Not Enough – Performing Queer Histories» was held in three different locations. Maria Kulikovska's project was shown at HAU2 – a contemporary innovative theatre in Berlin. Within the festival, the Crimean-Ukrainian artist showed the sculptures-copies of her own body that were shot by herself and represented the video performance «Let Me Say: It Is Not Forgotten», which became a clear reference to the events in Donetsk in 2014, when a group of pro-Russian terrorists shot at soap sculptures of Kulikovska, which were exhibited at Izolyatsia Art Centre in Donetsk, Ukraine. The full-sized figures with gunshot wounds were scouting in the stairwell near the small screens that broadcast video performances «Let Me Say: It Is Not Forgotten» and «Lustration / Ablution №2». In this place. where all time had an endless stream of visitors, these sculptures, like phantoms, have mixed and were getting lost between people.
Within the exhibition, Maria Kulikovska had a performative artist-talk, in which she told stories about Xena, eating her own sculptural legs. These stories, after all, became part of her master's thesis.
