Story

In 2016, Maria Kulikovska was invited to have a solo exhibition at Art Represent platform, which supports conflict-affected artists from around the world. During this exhibition the Ukrainian-Crimean artist showed her sculptures from the series «Homo Bulla», «254» and «Flowers of Democracy», watercolors from the series «My Beautiful. Wife?», and also first copies of porcelain plates with prints of images from this watercolor series.

9 May is a Victory Day that commemorates the surrender of Nazi German to Soviet Union. «The idea of celebrating victory over Nazism is a façade and a propaganda tool to inflate a sense of nationalism in order to cover up the current authoritarian dictatorship in the Crimea Peninsula and other occupied territories of Ukraine by Russian State, - Kulikovska said. - This two-part exhibition is about the fragile relationship between the human body and the external content of war. Marcel Duchamp once claimed, «I don't believe in art, I believe in artists». But I believe in art more than artists».

9th of MAY

I reached as all for endless love
No news of joy, had come tonight
But flowing blood is brought to light,
That in the land where I was born
I find my home, in Russian storm
Hope is crushed and life is shut.
I endless sketched into the night
No other way, I have to fight
With false hope and much despair.
Try to remember, not to forget
So many of my fellow dead.
I paint my wife, she sleeping thigh
Or standing naked under the light.
In blood and black my fight is dellt
My back-bound arms as war is felt
So far away, heartbroken fate
Like serving loved ones one a plate.
