The title of the «888» series is associated with the importance of number symbolism in Maria Kulikovska's creativity. The number «8» has particular importance to her. It is accompanied by artist's throughout life. Maria Kulikovska was born in 1988. And according to the Pythagorean Numerology her name and surname, as well as the date of birth, symbolize the number «8».
A few days after starting work on a new watercolor series with images of mutating, bleeding bodies in a whirlpool of dancing, Maria Kulikovska decided to check the distance from her new house in Kyiv to the lost family house in the occupied territory of Crimea. The artist opened a Google map and suddenly found that the distance was about 888 km. 888 is the distance from the lost house to the new one. «888» is the artistic distance from lost home to the new home, where the artist depicts the lost women's bodies that seek protection and shelter.
