PROJECT DETAILS

Watercolors on the paper for architectural sketches from the Soviet period. The series was created during one autumn evening in the cold, lonely white-cube-studio of Konstfack.

Story

«7 Flowers» is a series of seven watercolors on the paper for architectural sketches from the Soviet period, on the surface of which Maria Kulikovska closed floating, vibrating forms of calm and balanced colors. Flowers next to the body, flowers on the body, flowers in the body, flowers to the body, flowers from the body, flowers-body, body-like-a-flower, body of a flower.

The theme of physicality is a cross-cutting theme in Maria Kulikovska's creativity. It finds various forms and methods of expression in any materials, genres and subtexts. It always balances on the edge of something metaphorical and symbolic, pleasant and anxious. Constantly balancing on the edge of the body and the surrounding world. The series of watercolors «7 Flowers» introduces in itself, and then throws out the ready plant-body forms, balancing on the edge of the finished and performative.
